How to run a La Liga prediction league

La Liga is a long season with late kick-offs and a calendar that moves more than most. None of that is a problem for a prediction league once you know where it bites.

The season in numbers

Twenty clubs, each playing the others home and away: 38 rounds of 10 matches, 380 in all, from August to late May. A round is usually spread from Friday to Sunday, sometimes with a match on Monday night.

Late kick-offs

Plenty of La Liga matches kick off in the evening, and 9pm in Spain is common. If your players are in the UK, that's 8pm for them. Late games suit the people who like to wait for the team news, because every match on PrediSportsHQ stays open until its own kick-off.

Results come in overnight, so even Sunday's last match is scored and in the table by the morning.

Matches that move

La Liga often confirms the exact day and time of a match only a few weeks ahead, and some matches move later in the season, for example when clubs are busy in Europe or in the Super Cup. Until a time is confirmed, the match shows a provisional one.

You don't have to do anything about it. Fixtures update by themselves every night, so a match that moves shows its new date in your league, and it stays open until its new kick-off. If players ask why a match has jumped to another weekend, that's why.

When everyone backs the big clubs

In most seasons the title is fought out between a handful of clubs, and most players will back them every week. When everyone calls the same result, nobody gains on anyone. Leagues are usually decided by the exact score in those games and by the matches lower down the table, where a draw or an away win is a real chance.

That's an argument for bullseye scoring, which pays far more for the exact score than for the result. It's explained with worked examples in how the points work.

Christmas and the international breaks

La Liga pauses briefly over Christmas and is back in early January. It also stops for the international breaks in September, October, November and March. Two weeks without a match is when players drift, so post something the Friday before the restart: the title-race picture from Admin, then Stats, and the next deadline.

The real table and the AI

Your league's Table page has a second view with the real La Liga table, so players can check the standings without leaving. The AI's call on every La Liga match, and how it did, is on the La Liga predictions page.

PrediSportsHQ has no connection with the La Liga or any of its clubs. It's a free tool for running your own prediction league.
