Weekend round-up: Mbappé wins the Clásico as Villa end City's perfect start
Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid became the first side to beat Barcelona in LaLiga this season, Nicolas Jackson's double ended Man City's perfect start, and a 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth left Michael Carrick unsure of his future.

The talking points
Mbappé ends Barcelona's perfect run
Barcelona had won all nine of their LaLiga games before Sunday night. Real Madrid left Camp Nou with a 2-1 win, and the title race is open again. José Mourinho's side are three points behind Barcelona, with Atlético, 1-0 winners over Deportivo, squeezed in between them.
Madrid did it without the suspended Vinícius Júnior and without Thibaut Courtois, who withdrew with flu, so Andriy Lunin kept goal. Kylian Mbappé put them ahead four minutes before half-time when Gerard Martín's clearance struck him and went in. Raphinha levelled on the hour, shooting through Jude Bellingham's legs from Pedri's pass, and Barcelona pressed hard for a winner. Lamine Yamal had two chances and missed both.
The decisive moment came from a loose ball by the substitute Gabriel Jesus. Eduardo Camavinga ran past Pau Cubarsí and cut the ball back, Joan García was stranded, and Mbappé had an empty net three minutes from time.
"My team had an extraordinary game," Mourinho said, praising the calm his players kept at 1-1. Hansi Flick blamed tired legs: "We lacked freshness." It was Barcelona's second defeat in five days after Tuesday's loss to PSG, and Flick had won six of his previous seven Clásicos.
Villa end City's perfect start, and Arsenal draw level
Enzo Maresca's Man City arrived at Villa Park chasing an eighth straight league win, which would have been a club record. They left with their first defeat of the season, beaten 2-1 by two goals from Nicolas Jackson, and both came from City mistakes.
Marc Guehi's loose touch let Jackson in for the first after seven minutes. Erling Haaland headed in Iliman Ndiaye's cross to equalise early in the second half, his ninth league goal, but Jackson's first-time shot from Ibrahim Mbaye's centre went under Gianluigi Donnarumma seven minutes later. City hit the woodwork twice. Maresca's verdict was simple: "We lost because we were not being clinical enough in their box." It was Villa's first home league win of the season.
Arsenal took full advantage. Mikel Arteta made five changes after Wednesday's trip to Munich and still beat Everton 2-0, Ezri Konsa scoring after seven minutes and Gabriel heading the second. City and Arsenal both have 21 points, and City are top only on goal difference.
Liverpool are fourth after their first league win at Anfield under Andoni Iraola. Both goals came in the first half, the second from Alexander Isak, and Brighton's eight-game unbeaten run is over. Brighton had 64 per cent of the ball and one shot on target. Iraola's worry is Florian Wirtz, who went off with an ankle problem.
Spurs win at the Bridge as Palmer loses his head
Spurs had not won at Stamford Bridge since April 2018. They won 2-0 in heavy rain on Saturday and were the better side long before the goals came. Omar Marmoush should have put them ahead in the first half, and Chelsea managed seven attempts, their fewest in a league game this season.
The game turned in three minutes. Mike Penders punched Mateus Fernandes' corner into his own net with 13 minutes left, under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke. Cole Palmer, already booked, then stood on Conor Gallagher and was sent off. Mathys Tel finished it with a solo run from the left and a low shot three minutes from time.
Xabi Alonso played without a recognised striker, with Joao Pedro injured, and called Palmer's red card "one to learn from". Roberto De Zerbi was happier: "Now we are a complete team." It was his second win in six days. Chelsea drop out of the top four.
Bayern win for their absent coach
Vincent Kompany collapsed at Bayern's training ground on Friday while watching the reserve team train and was taken to hospital. He had been suffering from a viral infection, the club say his condition is stable, and Max Eberl, the director of sport, said the recovery will take weeks.
With Aaron Danks in the dugout, Bayern won 3-1 at Freiburg. Dayot Upamecano blocked a shot in his own half and finished the move he started, Serge Gnabry added a second before half-time, and Michael Olise scored in stoppage time after Freiburg had pulled one back.
Dortmund had gone top for a night with a 1-0 win over Frankfurt, the substitute Maximilian Beier scoring with 10 minutes left from Jobe Bellingham's pass. The two clubs have 17 points each and Bayern lead on goal difference. Leverkusen, beaten 3-0 at Hoffenheim, had won six in a row in all competitions. All three goals came in the last 11 minutes, and Alexander Prass was sent off for taking his shirt off to celebrate his.
Inter keep pace with Lazio, and Allegri is sent off
Inter were losing at home to Fiorentina with the 90 minutes up. Marcus Thuram equalised, then won a penalty five minutes into stoppage time, and Piotr Zieliński scored it. Cristian Chivu said the "injustices" his side felt they had suffered made them stronger.
They had to win. Lazio had beaten Parma 2-1 the night before, Kenneth Taylor scoring early in the second half and Diego Carlos turning Nuno Tavares' cross into his own net, and Gennaro Gattuso insisted his side have no business being up there. Lazio and Inter are level on 22 points, both unbeaten.
Roma stayed unbeaten too, though only just. Scott McTominay scored twice in Naples, the second seven minutes from time to make it 3-2, before Leonardo Balerdi's second goal of the night levelled it in the 89th minute. Massimiliano Allegri was sent off for protesting and Napoli are 10th. Milan won 2-0 at Udinese to stay level with Roma, four points off the top. Atalanta and Frosinone drew 4-4, and Frosinone are sixth.
Player of the weekend
Kylian Mbappé. Barcelona had 62 per cent of the ball and the momentum after Raphinha's equaliser, and Mbappé still decided the biggest game of the season so far with both of Madrid's goals. He was in the right place for the first and patient enough to wait for Camavinga's cut-back for the second. Madrid have now won five games in a row in all competitions.
Under pressure
Michael Carrick. Man United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. Carrick dropped his captain, Bruno Fernandes, calling it a "pure football" decision, and United were 2-0 down by half-time after Rayan scored from Justin Kluivert's free-kick and Marcus Tavernier punished a slip by Leny Yoro. Evanilson added the third.
United are 16th, a point above the bottom three, and came into the game after a 4-1 defeat at Como in the Champions League. The players were booed off while the fans sang Carrick's name, and their anger was aimed at the owners and the board. Asked what comes next, Carrick said: "I don't know." Marco Rose, the Bournemouth manager, said he felt empathy for him.
